Adobe Photoshop CS5: Removing Items from an Image with Content-Aware
Removing unwanted items from an image is one of the most common uses of Photoshop. The Content-Aware Filloption allows you to roughly select a part of your image and then make it disappear. You can make the selection by either brushing on with the Spot Healing brush, or by making a selection and then using Edit>Fill. This is the option we are demonstrating here. It isn’t 100% accurate all of the time, but it is easy enough to make your eyes sparkle with awe.
Here is an example of using the content-aware fill to remove the palm tree from the photograph below.

This is achieved with as little as three easy steps:
Step 1 - Make your selectionTo make the palm tree disappear, pick the Lasso tool and make a very rough selection around the area to delete. Don’t go too close to the edges – you need a bit of information around the area for it to work.

Step 2 - Make the fill
With the selection made, go to the Edit menu and click on Fill. On the Contents Use drop-down menu, make sure thatContent-Aware is the selected option and then click OK.

Step 3 – Touch-upAny imperfections are easy to fix. Use the Clone tool to brush over imperfections as if the palm tree never existed.
